The legendary tennis player Martina Navratilova revealed on Monday that she has been diagnosed with breast and throat cancer. The 18-time Grand Slam singles champion and International Tennis Hall of Fame member said in a statement that her prognosis is good and that she will begin treatment this month.
She said: “This double whammy is serious but still fixable, and I’m hoping for a favourable outcome,” the 66-year-old Navratilova said. “It’s going to stink for a while but I’ll fight with all have I got.”
How did Martina Navratilova find out about her Cancer?
She claimed that while watching the season-ending WTA Finals in Fort Worth, Texas, in November, she noticed a swollen lymph node in her neck. A biopsy revealed that she had early-stage throat cancer. Navratilova claimed that the unrelated breast cancer was found while she was having tests on her throat. In 2010, Navratilova received a noninvasive breast cancer diagnosis, leading to a lumpectomy.

After winning a record 167 singles matches, Navratilova retired in 1994, spending 331 weeks atop the WTA rankings. In 2000, she joined the tour again to play doubles, and she also made a few singles appearances.
In 2000, Navratilova was honoured by induction into the International Tennis Hall of Fame. She has recently worked as a TV analyst.
