Luka Doncic and the Mavericks excel in crunch time to outlast Lakers

Late in the first overtime, James made two free throws to give the Lakers a 108-105 lead, but Doncic answered with a 3-pointer with 47.8 seconds left to force a second overtime. Just before the buzzer, Wood blocked James’ effort to make a layup.

While Anthony Davis, Lonnie Walker, Austin Reaves, and Patrick Beverley were still absent, James returned from a one-game layoff with a painful left ankle and generally looked sharp. Due to the injuries, coach Darvin Ham was forced to play Max Christie, a rookie second-round pick, in his second career game, using his 23rd different starting lineup in 42 games this season.
