The national average for fuel jumped four cents this morning — to a record $4.52. The state of Florida just announced a move that is hoped to bring the price of gas down in Florida. The sale of a special winter blend of gas will now be allowed, which will increase the supply of gas available for people to buy.WESH 2 asked about how U.S. gas prices compare to those around the world.”Gas prices have been you know, high everywhere across the board, whether it’s Canada or it’s Europe, or just about anywhere, for that matter,” Patrick DeHaan with Gas Buddy said.DeHaan says U.S. prices are lower than many countries right now.”Which sounds pretty wild when we’re talking about record prices. But even to the north, our Canadian neighbors are paying the equivalent of nearly $7 per US gallon. So prices are substantially higher there. You go to Europe, and you’ll find $8 and $9 prices. Hong Kong well over $10 a gallon,” DeHaan said.A GasBuddy spokesperson said even with the soaring prices, US consumer demand went up 3% last week from the week before.”So that’s a pretty powerful metric that shows Americans are still getting out. They are not being dissuaded by high prices. And so my concern is that this imbalance and high prices could continue to go up,” DeHaan said. The good news, most agree the prices that have soared will eventually fall including here at home.”Eventually, we’re gonna get that peak inflation, where things are going to stop going up, and then start coming down,” he said.
