Dallas Mavericks Sign Four-Time All Star Kemba Walker in a One-Year Deal

Dallas Mavericks have signed Kemba Walker in a one-year, non-guaranteed deal. The free agent will now assist Luka Doncic in the Mavericks’ roster. The Mavericks have been struggling this season with a 9-10 start. The roster has put the refined Doncic under piles of load, resulting in a four-match losing streak for the Mavericks. While the health of Walker is still a concern, if available he can sure share some of the load of the Mavericks with Doncic.

This is not the first time that Mavericks tried to trade in Walker. Earlier, the Mavericks made a failed attempt at catching the free agent in 2018. However, Walker ultimately joined Boston Celtics for that season. The Mavericks are at a loss for a ball-handling option after losing Jalen Brunson this season. Consequently, the team has instilled trust in Walker despite the player struggling with injuries and form for quite some time now. Moreover, Mavericks made space for Walker by waving off Facundo Campazzo.

Kemba Walker Excited to join Dallas Mavericks

Walker hasn’t been active since he last played on February 23 stretching the hiatus for as long as 9 months. The four-time all-star averaged 11.6 points and 3.5 assists while shooting 36.7 percent from beyond the arc. His average declined from an impressive 19.3 points for the Celtics to 11.6 in his last outing. However, the player has demonstrated his skills in the previous seasons. Meanwhile, the Mavericks were on the lookout for someone able to assist Doncic and Spencer Dinwiddie in the team.

Speaking about joining the Mavericks, Walked said, “I feel really good. Not just saying that. I know I haven’t played in a while. … I feel as good as I’ve felt in a very long time. I waited, took my time and made sure I felt better before I really started ramping myself up.” Moreover, he expressed his plans for the team when he finally ends his hiatus. “Just add another guy that can create for others and myself. … Take some pressure off —well, Luka doesn’t really need pressure taken off. He’s special,” Walker said. “Just maybe helping Spence, who’s been killing it this year, when I’ve had the opportunity to him. Help the young guys, Josh (Green), being that extra ball handler.”
